What Is Instant Checkout?
Instant Checkout is a cool new instrument inside ChatGPT. It lets you buy items while you are chatting. Right now, this feature is only available in the United States, but OpenAI plans to bring it to more countries soon.
With this, anyone using ChatGPT — whether free, Plus, or Pro — can buy products. At the moment, it works with vendors from Etsy, and soon it will also include workshops from Shopify like Glossier, Skims, Spanx, and Vuori.
How Does It Work?
It’s very simple!
- Start chatting with ChatGPT.
- Ask about something you want, like “What are the best running shoes under Rs. 8,000?” or “What are good ceramic bowl gifts?”
- ChatGPT will show you a list of the best products.
- If the item supports Instant Checkout, you can click and buy it directly in the chat!
At this stage, you can only buy one product at a time. But OpenAI says soon we’ll be able to add many things to the cart.
The Technology Behind It
To make this happen, OpenAI created a new system called Agentic Commerce Protocol. This is like a rulebook that helps businesses, users, and AI chatbots work together to finish consumption safely. They even built it with the help of Stripe, a company that handles expenditures.
Payments and Safety
- Users can pay with their protected credit or debit card.
- Buyers don’t pay extra charges.
- Sellers pay OpenAI a small fee when they sell through ChatGPT.
- ChatGPT shows results that are fair and unsponsored, so it’s not just ads.
