Meta’s New Update: Ads and Posts Based on Your AI Chats

Meta’s New Update

Meta, the company that owns Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Threads, has shared a new update. From December 16, Meta will start showing ads and posts based on what publics talk about with its chatbot, Meta AI.

Before this change starts, Meta will send messages and emails to users from October 7, so everyone knows about the update.

What Will Change?

Right now, when you use Facebook or Instagram, you see posts, reels, and ads chosen by the app. But soon, Meta will use your chats with Meta AI to make these choices.

For example:

  • If you ask Meta AI about hiking, you might start sighted ads for hiking shoes.
  • Instagram may show you posts about hiking trails or groups where people share their experiences.

This means your feed will feel more personal, with content that matches your interests.

Where Will It Occur?

This update will work across Meta’s apps:

  • Facebook
  • Instagram
  • WhatsApp
  • Threads

So, no matter which app you use, your chats with Meta AI could affect what you see.

Are Users in Control?

Yes, Meta says that you are in control. Users can go to Ads Preferences or other settings to change what type of ads and posts they want to see. If you don’t like a suggestion, you can adjust your surroundings.

What Info Will Be Used?

Meta made it clear that some sensitive topics will not be used to show ads. These include:

  • Religion
  • Politics
  • Health details
  • Race or ethnicity
  • Personal beliefs

However, Meta did not clearly say if these topics will also be avoided when recommending posts or reels.

Accounts Centre

Meta will only use data from accounts you have linked in the Accounts Centre. For example, if your WhatsApp is not linked, then your chats with Meta AI on WhatsApp won’t affect ads or columns on Instagram or Facebook.

Why Is Meta Doing This?

Meta believes this update will make ads and content more useful. Instead of random posts, you will see things you may actually enjoy.

This change starts December 16, 2025, so keep an eye out for the announcements from Meta.
