    WhatsApp, the popular chatting app, is working on a new feature that will make chatting safer and easier. Soon, users may be able to create and reserve their own usernames, just like on Instagram or Snapchat! This means you won’t always have to share your phone number to chat with individuals.

    What Is the Username Feature?

    Right now, if someone wants to communicate you on WhatsApp, they need your phone number. But with this new update, WhatsApp strategy to let users make a unique username — something like “@Rahul123” or “@CoolGirl_01.”

    Once usernames are introduced, you’ll be able to message people just by using their username instead of their mobile number.

    Reserving Your Username

    According to a website that tracks new WhatsApp features called WABetaInfo, this function is being tested in the WhatsApp Beta version 2.25.28.12 for Android.

    When it becomes available, users will find a new “Username” option under the Profile tab in WhatsApp settings. From there, you’ll be able to reserve your favorite username before somebody else takes it.

    This early reservation system helps make sure that everyone gets a fair chance to pick their desired name before the full feature presenting for everyone.

    How It Improves Safety

    WhatsApp also wants this feature to make chatting safer. The app will include a “username key” option, which means only people who know both your username and your special key can connect you.

    This can help stop spam or unwanted messages from unknowns. It gives users more control over who can text them.

    Username Rules You Must Follow

    There will be some rules for making usernames:

    • Your username can’t start with “www”, so that no one can pretend to be a website.
    • It must have at least one letter.
    • You can use numbers (0–9), periods (.), and underscores (_).

    When Will It Come Out?

    The feature is still under development and not available even for individuals testing the beta version yet. But according to reports, it may be launched for more users in the upcoming weeks.

    This new feature will make WhatsApp more private, harmless, and fun — letting users attach without worrying about sharing personal phone numbers.
