WhatsApp is working on a new feature for iPad to make it calmer for users to navigate the app. The Meta-owned messaging platform is reportedly testing a left-aligned sidebar in a beta version of WhatsApp for iPad. This sidebar could help users switch among sections more quickly and give a better user experience on tablets.
What’s New on WhatsApp for iPad?
According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is developing a vertical sidebar for its iPad app. The feature was marked in WhatsApp beta for iOS version 25.29.10.72 through TestFlight.
The new sidebar will work like the one on the Mac app, where all the tabs are decided in a single column on the left. This design change is expected to make navigation more intuitive and help iPad users find Chats, Calls, Societies, and Settings without extra taps.
Benefits of the Sidebar
- Makes it easier to switch between sections of the app.
- Provides a consistent look and feel crossways Apple devices like Mac and iPad.
- Could improve usability by moving away from the traditional bottom tab bar.
- Might include shortcuts for common features.
Currently, the sidebar is still in development, so iPad users in the TestFlight beta program won’t see it yet. It is predictable to arrive in a future beta version before being rolled out to all users. WhatsApp may also add extra improvements before the official release.
Other WhatsApp Updates
WhatsApp has recently added several new features for iOS and Android users:
- Liquid Glass UI with semi-transparent basics and fluid animations.
- Ability to share Live Photos on iOS and Motion Photos on Android.
- New chat themes, sticker packs, and video call backgrounds.
- Testing a new Status Questions feature for select beta workers.
These updates, along with the new iPad sidebar, show WhatsApp is working hard to enhance navigation, usability, and overall user experience across devices.
