Canon Introduces Limited-Edition PowerShot G7 X III to Celebrate 30 Years of PowerShot

Canon has launched a special Limited Edition PowerShot G7 X III to mark the 30th anniversary of its popular PowerShot series. Canon’s first PowerShot camera debuted in 1996 with a 0.5-megapixel sensor, playing a key role in the early evolution of digital photography. The anniversary edition brings a handful of exclusive design upgrades, while the core hardware remains the same as the original model introduced nearly seven years ago.

The limited-edition camera comes in a new graphite colour finish and features a textured, knurled front control ring that Canon says represents a sense of “premium quality and luxury.” It also carries a special 30th-anniversary logo on the body, giving the camera added appeal for collectors.

The PowerShot G7 X III was originally designed with vloggers in mind and gained attention for features such as vertical video recording for social media platforms. It is equipped with a 20.1-megapixel sensor, a 3-inch flip-up touchscreen, a 24–100mm f/1.8–2.8 zoom lens, and a microphone input. The camera supports 4K video recording at 30fps without crop and 1080p video at up to 120fps. At launch, one of its standout features was the ability to live-stream directly to YouTube over Wi-Fi, which was considered innovative at the time. The original model debuted with a price tag of $749.

After facing supply shortages, the G7 X III saw renewed demand as influencers drove second-hand prices above retail. In response, Canon increased production in August 2025, bringing the camera back to stores a few months later at a higher price of $880.

The Limited Edition PowerShot G7 X III, however, is priced significantly higher at $1,299. The premium package includes a limited-edition Peak Design cuff wrist strap and a 32GB SD card, with shipping expected to begin in April 2026.

Alongside the anniversary camera, Canon also introduced two new RF-mount full-frame lenses. The first is the RF 14mm f/1.4 L VCM ultra-wide prime lens, priced at $2,599, designed to deliver bright, high-quality optical performance. The second is the RF 7–14mm f/2.8–3.5 L Fisheye STM zoom lens, priced at $1,899, offering an extreme 190-degree field of view at its widest setting.
