Gemini for Home: Google’s New Smart Assistant Starts Early Access in the US

Gemini for Home Google’s New Smart Assistant Starts Early Access in the US

Google has started giving publics in the United States early access to its new voice helper, Gemini for Home. This new assistant will soon swap Google Assistant on smart devices like Nest speakers and displays. Gemini is designed to be cleverer, faster, and more helpful for all your home requirements.

Right now, only users in the US who joined Google’s Early Access Program can try Gemini for Home. To use it, they need the Google Home app version 4.1. Google has also said that people in other countries will get access in 2026.

What Is Gemini for Home?

Gemini for Home is Google’s next-generation voice assistant that helps you do many things around your house using just your voice. It can:

  • Answer your questions
  • Set reminders and timers
  • Play music or videos
  • Control lights and other smart home devices

Just say “Hey Google” to start. You can also say “Hey Google, let’s chat” to use a special feature called Gemini Live — which lets you talk logically with Gemini, almost like chatting with a real one.

Free and Premium Features

The basic version of Gemini for Home is free for users in the Early Access Package. But some advanced tools will need a Google Home Premium subscription. These include:

  • Gemini Live (more natural conversations)
  • Searching your camera history
  • Creating smart home automations using voice

This premium option gives more control and smarter help for your connected devices.

Compatible Speakers and Displays

Gemini for Home works with almost every Google clever speaker and display released since 2016. This includes:

  • Nest Hub (1st and 2nd gen)
  • Nest Hub Max
  • Nest Audio
  • Nest Mini (1st and 2nd gen)
  • Google Home and Home Max
  • Nest Wi-Fi point

Gemini Live will be available on a few of these devices for users with the Finest plan.

When and How to Join

The rollout started on October 28 in the US at 9:30 a.m. PST (10:00 p.m. IST). To join, users can go to the Settings > Early Access unit in the Google Home app. Google also welcomes feedback — you can say, “Hey Google, send feedback,” to share your opinions.

With Gemini for Home, Google is bringing the future of smart living right into your home!
