WhatsApp, the popular chatting app owned by Meta, is working on a brand-new feature that gives you more control over your status updates. This feature is still being tested, but it could soon be available for everybody. Let’s find out what it’s all about!

    What Is This New Feature?

Normally, when you post a status update on WhatsApp, people who can see it may want to share it another time. But now, WhatsApp is testing a choice where you get to agree who can re-share your status.

This means you are the boss of your own status updates. If you don’t want others to share it, you can turn the decision off.

    How Does It Work?

In the test version (called WhatsApp Beta for Android 2.25.27.5), a new setting seems with your status called “Allow Sharing”.

    • By default, it is turned off.
    • If you want to let others share your status, you can turn it on manually.
    • You can also decide who can see and share your status. For example:
      • Exclude certain friends
      • Share only with selected Contacts

This way, only the people you trust can share your updates.

    What Happens When Somebody Re-Shares?

If a friend re-shares your status update, a label will appear at the top of the screen so that everyone knows it’s a reshared post.

    Also:

    • The original author’s details (like your name or number) will not be visible to others.
    • But you, as the author, will get a notification when your status is reshared.

This helps keep things safe and private.

    Who Can Use It Now?

Right now, this feature is only being tested with people who are part of the Google Play Beta program. These are special testers who get to try new tools before they are released for everybody.

If the tests go well, WhatsApp may roll out this feature to more users in the coming weeks

    Final Thoughts

This new option is all about giving users control over their privacy. With it, you decide who can re-share your status and when. That means fewer worries and more freedom to share updates safely with friends.

So, get ready! Soon, your WhatsApp status updates might be more private, personal, and secure than ever before.
