    What’s Happening?

WhatsApp, the world’s most famous chat app, is working on a new safety feature called “Strict Account Settings.” This update is being developed to protect users from hacks, spam, and cyberattacks. It was discovered in the beta version (a test version) of WhatsApp for Android.

This feature is especially designed for persons who may be at a higher risk online — such as public figures or users who receive a large number of unknown messages.

    What Is “Strict Account Settings”?

Think of this feature as a super shield for your WhatsApp account. Once it’s turned on, it will lock down many parts of your account to make it more protected — all with just one simple switch.

You won’t have to manually adjust every privacy option. WhatsApp will automatically allow the safest settings for you.

    How Will It Protect You?

Here’s what this new mode is expected to do:

    1. Hide Your Location
Your IP address will be hidden when you make calls, so no one can track your location through them.
    2. Stop Dangerous Files
Files, photos, or videos from unknown people won’t download automatically. This will help protect you from viruses and fake links.
    3. No Link Previews
Normally, WhatsApp shows a small preview when someone sends a website link. This can sometimes reveal your location. In strict mode, these previews will be turned off.
    4. Block Spam Calls
Calls from numbers you don’t know will be muted, helping you avoid scams and unwanted calls.
    5. Limit Group Invites
Only people saved in your contacts will be able to add you to groups, keeping random strangers out.
    6. Hide Personal Info
Your profile photo, last seen, and status will only be visible to your saved contacts.
    7. Two-Step Verification
This adds an extra PIN code for logging in, making it much harder for hackers to steal your account.
    8. Security Alerts
You will get a message if WhatsApp detects any change in a contact’s security code. This lets you confirm that your conversations are still secure.

    When Will It Arrive?

The feature is still under development, so it’s not available yet — even if you have the latest WhatsApp version. However, since it has been marked in testing, it’s expected to arrive in a future update soon.

     Why It Matters

The new Strict Account Settings mode shows that WhatsApp is serious about keeping users safe. It will be particularly useful for people who face online threats or obtain many unwanted messages. Once it’s released, it will make talking on WhatsApp safer, more private, and more secure for everybody.
