What is Amazon Prime?
Amazon Prime is a special membership that gives people many benefits. Some of these are:
- Free and fast delivery
- Movies and shows
- Special discounts and transactions
In India, Amazon Prime costs ₹399 per annum, which is quite affordable.
The Feature That’s Going Away
Earlier, Prime members could request people living at a different address to enjoy free delivery. For example, if you had Prime, you could share free delivery with your friend who lives in another house.
But now, Amazon has announced a big change. From October 1, you will not be able to invite people with a different address for free delivery.
What Will Replace It?
Amazon is changing the old Prime Invite Program with a new plan called Amazon Family.
What is Amazon Family?
With Amazon Family, Prime members can:
- Share benefits with 1 adult and up to 4 children
- Add up to 4 profiles under one account
- Enjoy free two-day delivery, exclusive deals, and movies together
But here’s the rule: All the users must have the same primary address.
Important Dates
- October 1, 2025 → Prime Invite program will end.
- Before April 7, 2025 → Prime members can still share benefits with 1 adult, 4 kids, and up to 4 profiles (if the same address is used).
What Was the Invite Program?
The Prime Invite Program allowed:
- A member to share free two-day delivery with someone else
- Even if that person lived at a different address
- This meant two people in two different homes could get free fast delivery without giving extra amount.
It helped friends and family who lived in different places but wanted to save money together.
Now, Amazon is stopping this benefit because it wants publics who live outside the main home to buy their own Prime membership.
Why is Amazon Perform This?
Amazon wants more people to join Prime individually. Instead of many people sharing one account across different addresses, Amazon hopes each home will pay for their own membership.
Final Thoughts
This is a big change for all Amazon Prime users. Earlier, people could share their free delivery with friends in other homes, but from October 1, this will not be possible.
Instead, the new Amazon Family plan will let you share benefits with people living in the same house.
So, if you share Prime with friends at a different address, be ready to adjust from October!
Quick Tip for Kids: Think of Amazon Prime like a lunchbox. Earlier, you could share your lunchbox with your friend in another classroom. But now, you can only share it with people sitting at your own table!
